This is a collection of public-domain materials useful for theological research. Since most of the works are older, historical items, the site will be more helpful for those doing historical studies or seeking primary documents. Early Church Fathers, listed separately below, is part of this site.

More than 3,000 books online! NAP publishes the reports issued by the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Medicine, and the National Research Council. Although the site will be happy to sell you physical copies, you can read many (but not all) of the books online for free. Look for the "FREE!" link.

Project Gutenberg is the first and largest single collection of free electronic books. They offer about 30,000 free, online books. Due to copyright restrictions, most of these are older, "classic" texts.
